TEAM
BIGLEN RACES NORTH FROM HURRICANE IVAN
Miami, FL
– The bags are packed… The semi-truck is stuffed… It is
time to ‘get outta Dodge!’ After the recent fury
unleashed by Hurricanes Charley and Frances, in nearby
cities, team owner & driver Len Monserrat decides to
pack up his 2003 Pro RWD Eclipse, his retired 1991 Pro
FWD Eclipse, and hit the road, as category 5 Hurricane
Ivan threatens a course that may prove ‘too close for
comfort’.
“First and foremost, I am happy to say that everyone
[family, friends, & crew] is safe and secure. We were
fortunate that hurricane Frances simply brushed us last
week; however, Ivan seems to have a fix on our
location. There is still a chance it may miss us, but
we got hit twelve years ago by [Hurricane] Andrew, and I
am not going through that again,” says Monserrat.
Len
Monserrat chose to take a brief moment from storm
preparations, and draft this message of gratitude for
the numerous concern-filled phone calls from sponsors,
competitors, and fans offering a place to stay and a
safe place to keep the racecars and equipment. He says:
“I
took the time to send this message to say thank you for
your thoughts and to let everyone know what a great
feeling it is to have the ability to spontaneously hit
the road and drive my semi to my competitor’s shop, no
questions asked… Obviously, of most importance while
facing an emergency like this, is to make sure everyone
is safe and prepared for the storm. However, its great
to know I can also protect the endless time and hard
work my crewmembers have put into this racecar… No
insurance policy can give that back to me…”
The
team’s truck may head North to Atlanta & spend the
weekend at the NOPI compound or at sponsor Competition
Clutch’s home base. The BigLen gang is eager for
hurricane Ivan and its expected aftermath to pass, so
they can get back to the regular schedule, as they
prepare for the NOPI Moroso make-up in Palm Beach, FL
(Sep 25-26) and for the NHRA Fall Nationals in
Englishtown, NJ (Oct 2-3).
“Optimistically, we might be looking ahead to a week of
clean-up and then we can get back to work on the car,
probably on generator power,” says shop manager Danny
Vidal.
